At Reading Builds Bridges, we believe that the right story can change everything. By bringing inclusive, heart-centered books into classrooms, we help children see the world through different eyes — fostering kindness, curiosity, and a deep sense of belonging. Together, we can create learning environments where every child feels seen, valued, and supported.
At Reading Builds Bridges, we believe stories can do more than entertain — they can open hearts, build empathy, and help children understand the beauty of being different.
Our mission began in a second-grade classroom. As parents of a child with autism, we brought a book about autism into our son’s classroom and read it aloud. We asked the students if they knew anyone who was autistic, and gently shared that our son was too. What followed was an honest, joyful conversation about differences, similarities, and what makes each of us special. We handed out stickers, talked about what it means to be a good friend, and saw the classroom shift in real time.
From that day on, our son was never alone. He had friends cheering him on, classmates looking out for him, and high-fives in the hallway for years to come. That moment became one of the most positive experiences of his school life — not because we changed who he was, but because we helped others understand and accept him.
That’s why Reading Builds Bridges exists: to spark conversations that lead to connection, confidence, and lasting inclusion.
